iPod Video Formats

The iPod Video supports two video formats.

The iPod Video can play video content in the H.264 format (also known as MPEG-4 Part 10 or Advanced Video Coding). The most important part of preparing video in this format is that it has a resolution of 640×480 or 320×240 pixels. Files in this format have filename extensions .m4v, .mp4, or .mov. Unfortunately, just because a filename has one of these extensions doesn’t mean it is iPod compatible. These files can contain video with many different attributes, such as different resolutions.
