Introduction

The iPad tablet is a huge success. Of course, this statement consists partly of my own opinion, but evidence from sales, customer reviews, and the large number of competitor tablets being released over the last 12+ months all support one clear fact—the iPad has shaken the personal computing world up and there’s no going back.

Since the iPad’s release in early 2010, the tablet has had a few updates to its operating system, iOS, as well as a completely new version of the tablet called the iPad 2. When the iPad 2 was released it came with version 4.2, and the first edition of this book covered many of the apps and features included with that version of the OS. Now, however, Apple has released a new version, iOS 5, and although it looks and operates just like its predecessor OS, there are some changes—some are easy to spot and others not so easy. And that’s where this book comes in.
