Text Messages

The Siri voice assistant on your iPhone 4S helps you use your voice to check your messages, reply to them, and start new conversations. With Siri, you can perform many of your iMessage tasks from anywhere on your iPhone.

Siri supports sending or receiving three different types of messages—standard SMS text messages, MMS multimedia (pictures and video) messages, and Apple’s new iMessage format. iMessage bypasses the traditional phone-based messaging system and instead transfers text and multimedia messages over the Internet.

Siri, like the proverbial honey badger, really doesn’t care how the messages are sent. It chooses the correct transport method, and ensures that your message is properly dictated and sent to the recipient. One nice feature of iMessage is that it lets you know when the message has been delivered, and it also shows you if someone is in the process of typing a reply.
