Chapter 12. Maps > Downloading BlackBerry Maps Application

12.1. Downloading BlackBerry Maps Application[]

[] BlackBerry Maps Application only works in the following countries: USA, Canada, UK, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France (including Monaco), Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy (including Vatican City and San Marino), Liechtenstein, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain (including Andorra), Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia, Croatia, Albania, Bulgaria, Moldova, Romania, Belarus, Bosnia Herzegovina, (Former Yugoslav Republic of) Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and United Arab Emirates.

If your country is not listed here, you might need to download another map application, such as Google Maps, Gmaps, Spot for BlackBerry, Wayfinder Navigator, and so on, most of which are free and can be downloaded from the Internet or directly through your BlackBerry Browser Application.

If you find yourself staring at a blank screen instead of the maps application, it could be that the application needs to be downloaded. This is a very simple procedure and requires just a couple of minutes.

BlackBerry Maps application has many advantages over other applications. For starters, the BlackBerry Maps can map an address from your Contacts directly without having to retype or copy and paste. It also allows you to set the direction in which you're heading as Up. This is not allowed in other applications (such as Google Maps). Plus, if you have a weak data plan or Internet connection, the speed of accessing the other maps through the browser might be a cause of concern.
