Using Speech

Windows Phone 7 even allows you to search the Web using your voice to enter your query (as opposed to typing it in). To access this feature, follow these steps:

  1. Turn on and unlock your phone.
  2. Press the search button.
  3. Tap the Microphone icon at the end of the Search box (see Figure 9–9).

  4. When the Listening box appears (see Figure 9–10), say whatever you want to search for, taking care to enunciate clearly. Your phone will attempt to match what you are saying to words that it knows, and then start the search.

  5. If your phone cannot hear you, you'll receive an error similar to the one shown in Figure 9–11. If this happens, tap the speak button and try searching again. In loud environments, the voice-based Search feature might not be able to distinguish what you are saying from ambient noises, so you may wish to enter your search on the keyboard if you're in a crowd. If your phone cannot understand what you've said, it will raise an error; in this case, you can try again by pressing the speak button.
