Safari Books Online is a digital library providing on-demand subscription access to thousands of learning resources.
Even though you may not use it—or haven’t had reason to yet—the iPad’s Home screen includes a new app called Newsstand for organizing all the digital newspapers and magazines you buy through the App Store.
As you’ll soon learn in Chapter 8, the iPad is a great way to haul around hundreds of hefty books and magazines in convenient electronic form. Your iPad neatly files digitized novels and nonfiction tomes on iBooks’ virtual shelves right when you buy them from within the app, but your e-subscriptions work a little differently. iBooks automatically downloads your magazines and newspapers to the Newsstand app whenever a new issue is ready.
“Hey,” you say, “That all sounds great, but how do I find and subscribe to digital magazines and newspapers in the first place?” Apple, in its quest to sell you more content, has made it extremely easy: Just launch the Newsstand app and tap the Store button in the top-right corner.
