Reset Your iPad

Restarting your iPad (turning it completely off and then back on again) can solve many problems, but what do you do if your iPad doesn’t respond to this gentle touch? You can physically reset it without losing your files. (Resetting is the troubleshooting step Apple recommends if restarting doesn’t work; it reboots the tablet if it’s too flummoxed to respond to a normal restart.)

To give your iPad the old reset move, follow the steps below:

  1. Plug the iPad into its wall charger if you suspect its battery is running low.

  2. Simultaneously press and hold down the Sleep/Wake button on top and the Home button on the front. Let go when you see the Apple logo. You can hold it up or lay it flat on the table to reset it, as long as you hit the buttons properly.
