Before you can use Find My Device, two prerequisites must be met on the target device (the one you’ll attempt to find, if it goes missing):
A mobile device must be running iOS 5 or later, and a Mac must be running 10.7.2 Lion or later. This excludes Find My Device from working on iOS devices that cannot be upgraded to iOS 5: the first-and second-generation iPod touch, the original iPhone, and the iPhone 3G (even though they did work under MobileMe).
You must activate Find My Device on each Mac and iOS device itself. To do this on a Mac, open the iCloud pane of System Preferences and make sure Find My Mac is checked. On an iOS device, tap Settings > iCloud and make sure Find My Device is set to On; if not, tap the Off switch to turn it on.
