Changing and Creating Layouts

iBooks Author comes with several predefined layouts for chapters, sections, and pages. To change a layout, hover the pointer over the thumbnail image in the Book pane and then click Image (Figure 4.1).

You can change an existing layout or create a new custom layout. If you modify a layout, changes are applied to the existing chapters, sections, or pages that were based on the original layout. If you resize the image in a chapter layout, for example, all pages that use that layout update to the new image size; you don’t need to change each page manually.

To apply layout changes to all pages based on that layout, choose Show Layouts from the View pop-up menu in the toolbar and then select the target layout in the Layouts pane in the sidebar. Change the layout however you like by adding, moving, resizing, or formatting placeholders, images, or other objects. When you’re done, click Apply Changes. You can also right-click a layout to manage it (Figure 4.2).
