4. Laying Out a Book > Changing and Creating Placeholders

Changing and Creating Placeholders

All templates and layouts include predefined placeholders that make it easy to add content (text or media) to your book. You can define your own placeholders on individual pages when you change or create a template or layout.

To define a media placeholder, drag a photo or movie file from the Media Browser (click Media in the toolbar) or Finder to a book page. (You can’t add files in unsupported image or video formats.) Change the object’s attributes as desired. iBooks Author offers many ways to change attributes, including the Inspector (Option+Command+I), format bar (Shift+Command+R), and Format menu. When you’re done, select the object and then choose Format > Advanced > Define as Media Placeholder (Control+Option+Command+I) so that a check mark appears in the menu.
