With the wireless router set up and all the computers now communicating with it, it is time to turn our attention to securing the wireless network.
The starting assumption is that you have already been successful in setting up the home wireless network without security in Chapters 7, “Wireless Router Setup,” and 8, “Wireless NIC Setup.” If not, stop and do that first. Turning security on in a wireless network that is already having issues is only going to increase the problem, not solve it.
As discussed in Chapter 5, “Wireless Security: What You Need to Know,” wireless networks have no security enabled when you buy the router and NICs. This is necessary because the wireless router and NICs have to be set up with the same security information (that you choose) to communicate with each other.
