The Twenty-First-Century Leader Can See the Way to Learn

To build a sharing environment, take advantage of every opportunity to open new channels of communication within your immediate team and across divisions. Value teaching as much as doing, and learning as much as teaching. Employees should understand that hoarding knowledge and placing a priority on personal triumph will not be viewed as favorably as mentoring and sharing credit. Internalize the following three leadership practices to advance your entire organization.

Share Wisdom and Breakthroughs

New Wave works at creating a collaborative culture where all the doors are open. They have biweekly management meetings where the heads of all the departments get together and talk about department matters, and how they are running their parts of the business. They make a point to ask: What do we need to do differently? At their meetings, those who attend rotate leadership in the sessions. Each person gets a turn to set up, make a presentation, and moderate the discussions on agenda items gathered from everyone beforehand.
