Outstanding leadership is a concise guide to leadership by business speaker Molly Harvey. It is the first title in a collection of books that covers key management skills, presenting the information in bite-sized nuggets that can be implemented straight away.

Outstanding Leadership is an enjoyable and interesting read, a book filled with practical ideas and gems of wisdom through anecdotes and inspirational quotes.
I found nothing innovative within its pages but inspiration and subsequent motivation to act does not have to be about fresh ideas. A reiteration of things already known can be and in this case, is just as useful and worthy.

Quotes from the book which made me smile:

• To trust our inner satnav we have to think and live from the inside out. It is as if we have to go back to being a child again. You have to trust that small, quiet guidance system within you completely. The only thing standing between you and your inner guidance system is your mind
• Don’t think that good intentions are an acceptable excuse for doing nothing
• Curiosity leads to clarity; clarity leads to action; action leads to results
• Ask great questions, unleash debate


Quotes that made me think:

• It has to start from the top. Unless the leaders of an organisation connect and collaborate effectively…………..
• The best way to inspire people to superior performance is to convince them by everything you do and by your daily attitude, that you wholeheartedly support them.
• Outstanding leaders say the right thing in the right way and at the right time
• We are all different. Always make the other person your starting point and treat them the way they want to be treated (not the way you want to be treated).
• Know when to leave; know when to quit; know when to be patient

I was looking for inspiration and found it, the book definitely generated enthusiasm in me.  I have added it to my favourites and imagine I will dip in and out of certain chapters from time to time.
This book could just as well be called Outstanding human being, many of the behaviours and ideas it endeavours to teach and promote are great life skills and could be used to remind us how to be a decent parent, adult, colleague or member of civilised society.
You will enjoy Outstanding Leadership if you like ‘self-improvement’ titles or ‘mind, body, spirit books.
