The 30-Second Recap

  • Try to find out why an employee doesn't have an interest in improving performance.

  • If the employee lacks confidence or has become bored with the work, you can often salvage the employee. To deal with a lack of confidence create a plethora of opportunities for the employee to succeed. Each success will build confidence. For the bored employee, add some variety to his work.

  • If the employee's attitude toward the company is poor or if he has simply lost interest in the work, you're probably going to have to help him find other employment.

  • One of the biggest mistakes you can make is spending a lot of time with people who aren't interested in improving their skills or performance. It's the ones who are interested who deserve your time and energy.
