Individual Work or Job Level Barriers
The second type of barrier are those operating at the level of the individual's work or job. It is almost always the case that managers have to juggle their people management responsibilities on top of a busy and demanding ‘day job’. Indeed, one of the things managers told us during our research is that they would like more time in their schedule to focus on Positive Manager Behaviour and people management generally. Heavy workloads, conflicting and multiple priorities, short deadlines and lack of resources, whether they are the manager's responsibility or implicate the whole team, can all be barriers to managers showing Positive Manager Behaviour and/or lead to negative behaviour.
