Emergency care of the the client by the licensed practical nurse might include removing or inactivating the poison. Additional interventions such as providing supportive care to maintain vital organ systems, administering specific antidotes, and initiating treatment to facilitate excretion of the absorbed poison are carried out within the emergency department by the registered nurse.
