3.4.1 Some Disadvantages of the Computed Radiography System

Through the years CR has gradually replaced many conventional screen/film projection radiography procedures, and it has been successfully integrated in PACS operation. The advantages are that it produces a digital image, eliminates the use of films, requires a minimal change in the radiographic procedure room, and the image quality is acceptable for most examinations. However, the technology has certain inherent limitations. First, it requires two separate steps to form a digital image, a laser to release the light energy in the latent image from the IP, and a photomultiplier to convert the light to electronic signals.
