Chapter 7. Current Cisco IOS Releases: Extension of the Technology Model

As I alluded to in Chapter 6, "Cisco IOS Releases 11.3/11.3T and Related STED: The Beginning of the Technology Release Model," the Cisco IOS release 11.3/11.3T pair were released to bridge the gap between 11.2F and the next major release, 12.0. This transition accounted for a stable main line, 11.3M, and successive deployment of new features and new platforms via 11.3T. On the horizon, Cisco IOS 12.0 was launched to bring together all active Cisco IOS releases to produce a truly unified release. Figure 7-1 shows the consolidation plan for the preceding releases to the 12.0/12.0T pair, not including the XED releases.
