4.7. Summary

In this chapter, we discussed the details of managed and unmanaged CE deployments and looked at some of the important differences between the two. We also discussed the advantage that a managed CE deployment offers in distributing key functions between the PE and CE layers, to offload tasks from the PE layer. We also took a look at sample carrier offerings for managed CE customers from a QoS standpoint and discussed some important points to be considered for establishing a well-coordinated QoS policy. These sample offerings and metrics are provided with the intention of helping the reader understand QoS models from a carrier’s perspective before we move into the implementation chapters that follow.
