About the Authors

Diane Barrett has been involved in the information technology (IT) industry for over 20 years. She spent 7 years in software development before continuing her career in technology by her involvement in education, network security, and digital forensics. She holds an MS in IT with an INFOSEC specialization and is currently working on a PhD with a specialization in information security. She has spent the last several years performing digital forensics in civil litigation cases and has published numerous works as both a primary and coauthor focusing on computer forensics and network security. These works include “Computer Forensics JumpStart” and “Computer Networking Illuminated.” She has also been the featured speaker at many industry events.

Gregory Kipper has been involved in the field of IT security and information assurance over the past 16 years. He has spent the last 10 years of his career working in the field of digital forensics and the impacts emerging technologies have on crime and crime fighting. During that time, he has been the keynote speaker at select industry events and has published numerous papers in regards to the future and the impact of digital forensics. He is currently pursuing a master’s in emerging technologies. He is also a published author in the field; his works include “Investigator’s Guide to Steganography” and “Wireless Crime and Forensic Investigation.”

Samuel Liles (M.S.C.S) is an associate professor of IT at Purdue University Calumet. He is a senior faculty member in the Computer Information Technology department delivering operating systems, networking, and security curriculum with a focus on security and forensics. He provides consulting services to all levels of government. He has served in the military, held various positions in law enforcement, and worked as an IT consultant for over 15 years.
