File Processing

As more and more files are placed on your network, it becomes important to provide tools for searches. While searching for file names was appropriate in years past, it's now common to data-mine the text of all documents.

Beagle

Beagle is an indexing system that searches your documents and files, and indexes the contents into a database. On smaller servers with fewer users, it can be run in real time. In larger deployments, it can be done in batch mode via cron to offload the processing of documents to night-time hours. A wide range of document formats including those from Microsoft Office and OpenOffice.org are supported. The user run-time processes can be attached to their own private data and shared directories.
