Chapter 7. Domain Name System > Ongoing Maintenance

Ongoing Maintenance

Maintaining a DNS server requires keeping the DNS database for all zones up-to-date and occasionally replacing a failed DNS server. The sections that follow describe how to add resource records, how to maintain the accuracy of a zone, and how to perform automated monitoring of your DNS server.

Adding Resource Records

You will need to add A and PTR records for new computers that do not support dynamic DNS. Additionally, you might need to create CNAME records so that a single server can have multiple resource records.
