Troubleshooting

The sections that follow describe tools and techniques for troubleshooting common problems with DNS servers. If the problem is with the DNS server itself (for example, the DNS Server service does not start or zone transfers fail), check the Event Logs. For problems with Active Directory–integrated zones, use the DCDiag tool. If you are still unable to identify the problem, enable debug logging at the server.

If resource records are unavailable or incorrect, you can typically isolate the problem using Nslookup. To troubleshoot more complex problems, use DNSLint or Network Monitor.
