Section: C Operations, Management, and Security

Section C: Operations, Management, and Security

The successful deployment of any networking technology relies on its operational utility in the field. It must be possible to install, configure, operate, and diagnose the equipment and services, and it must be possible to secure the technology against interference by outside parties. Thus the three elements of Operations, Management, and Security of MPLS networks, protocols, and equipment have become fundamental to the take-up of MPLS.

This section contains chapters that examine three key elements. Chapter 9 looks at how MPLS equipment and protocols can be inspected, configured, and controlled through the use of standardized management information interfaces. Chapter 10 introduces the latest techniques for detecting and diagnosing faults within MPLS networks. And Chapter 11 discusses issues of security as they apply to MPLS.
