Bandwidth reservation, per-VNET bandwidth allocation, and QoS resource management are already in widespread use in TDM-based dynamic routing networks. These methods are extensible to IP/MPLS networks, as demonstrated in this chapter. Such methods are shown to provide robust and efficient networks and are applicable to both intranetwork and internetwork dynamic routing networks.
Based on these and other results presented in this book, we give service provider requirements for a standardized GTQO protocol, which includes generic service aspects, management aspects, and CAC aspects. These GTQO protocol requirements would then be used to drive the vendor implementations in the direction of network operator requirements and vendor interoperability. Service providers and their customers would benefit from these capabilities in terms of network performance and profitability, as demonstrated in this chapter and throughout this book. Service provider interest in adopting such TQO features then also leads to vendor profitability if their products support these features.
