Using a web browser, remote users can establish a secure VPN tunnel over SSL.
Tunnels can be in clientless mode, thin-client mode, or tunnel mode. Clientless mode enables for web-based applications such as file sharing (using the common Internet file system standard) and Outlook Web Access. Thin-client mode uses a Java Applet and TCP port forwarding to extend functionality. In thin-client mode, a user can access applications such as email clients, telnet, and SSH. Thin-client mode requires Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.4 or later. Finally, tunnel mode enables the greatest flexibility by establishing a full VPN tunnel that enables all network traffic. Tunnel mode uses a Java or ActiveX Cisco AnyConnect VPN client that the user must download and install.
