20.5. Connect Directly to Multicast Receivers

Problem

You need the firewall to forward multicast traffic to a set of directly attached subscribers.

Solution

Enable IGMP on the connected interface:

	FIREWALL-A-> set interface eth0/0 protocol igmp router
	FIREWALL-A-> set interface eth0/0 protocol igmp enable
	FIREWALL-A->set interface eth0/0 protocol igmp no-check-router-alert

Discussion

ScreenOS is capable of receiving and acting on the receipt of IGMP reports from hosts, much like a standard router operating system. IGMP is the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standard method for hosts to signal that they are interested in receiving a particular multicast data stream. There are three versions of IGMP—v1, v2, and v3—and ScreenOS supports all three. IGMPv2, defined in RFC 2236, is the most commonly used, and as such, it is the default version in ScreenOS.
