6.5 The Ideas Behind Web 2.0

Most of the Web 2.0 applications discussed in the previous section have a number of basic ideas behind them. Tim O’Reilly, who originally coined the term Web 2.0, has written an extensive essay [12] about the ideas behind Web 2.0. Basically, he sees seven principles that make up Web 2.0 and points out that, for applications to be classified as belonging to Web 2.0, they should fulfill as many of the criteria as possible. This section gives a brief overview of these principles as they form the basis for the subsequent analysis, that is how these principles are enhanced or limited by mobile Internet access and if the mobile Web 2.0 is just an extension of Web 2.0 or requires its own definition.
