8.6. Making a Budget Current

Although you can build as many different budgets as you want, you can work with only one budget at a time—the current budget. Quicken uses the current budget when you choose the "Copy current" option to create a new budget, as you saw on Section 8.3. The program also uses the current budget when you generate reports that compare your budget and actual spending, so it's important to make sure you've got the correct budget set as current.

To change the current budget, choose Planning → Budgets to open the Budget window. Click the Setup tab. In the Other Budgets list, select the budget you want to work with and click Open. Quicken makes the budget you selected the current budget and displays the Income tab containing the current budget's numbers. The program adds the budget name to the window title. For example, the Budgets window title changes to something like Budget: Budget 2006.
