Locking Your ID

After you've opened the Lotus Notes program and have been working with it, your personal information is at risk if you walk away from your desk and leave Lotus Notes running. You've already entered your password, so anyone who walks up to your desk can access any data that you can, including your mail database.

When you leave your desk, lock your ID so that no one else can access your Notes files without first entering your password. To lock your ID, choose File, Tools, Lock ID from the menu; or press F5; or click the Lock ID SmartIcon if it is displaying. You can't always predict when you're going to be pulled away from your computer, and you might not have time to manually lock your ID. Notes can automatically lock your ID for you after a specified time period. To set up this automatic lock, choose File, Tools, User Preferences from the menu to open the User Preferences dialog box. Enter the number of minutes in the Lock ID After_____ Minutes of Inactivity field. Click OK.
