Part 1. Using Common Office Features

All the programs in the Microsoft Office suite have a common look and feel. They share plenty of features and procedures, such as saving and opening files. In the tasks in Part 1, you'll learn to use many of these shared features. For example, each program is opened and closed in the same way. As you use the programs, you'll notice similar dialog boxes for common tasks. This similarity allows you to apply the skills you've learned in one program to another program.

The Office programs share help features, including Office Assistant. You'll also encounter smaller applications that are shared across the Office programs, such as WordArt (a program for creating text-based graphic effects) and Smart Tags (shared buttons for options such as copying, pasting, and correcting errors). You'll learn more about the drawing and graphics tools in Part 8 "Working with Office's Graphics Tools."
