Chapter 21. Email > Incoming Email

Incoming Email

You can check for new email manually or automatically. To check automatically, you need to define one or more schedules. A schedule specifies the circumstances under which Outlook will check for new mail, accounts that will be checked, and when the checks will occur. In this section, you’ll learn how to manually check for new mail and on an automatic, repeating schedule.

To check for new email manually

Do any of the following:

  • Click the Home : Send/Receive icon or the icon on the Standard toolbar to perform a send and receive for all email accounts that you’ve associated with the Send & Receive All schedule.

The Send/Receive icon can be found in the Ribbon and on the Standard toolbar (shown here).

  • Click the down arrow beside the Home : Send/Receive icon. Choose Send & Receive All or the name of a specific account (to perform a send/receive only for that account).

  • Choose Tools > Send & Receive > Send & Receive All (Command-K) to perform a send/receive for all email accounts that you’ve associated with the Send & Receive All schedule or choose the name of a specific email account to check .

You can also perform a general or selective Send/Receive by choosing a command from the Tools menu (shown) or the Home : Send/Receive icon’s menu.
