Chapter Two. Creating PDF Files Outside ... > Adding Specialized Media Content

#14. Adding Specialized Media Content

The ability to use and manipulate media increases with every new version of Acrobat, and Acrobat 9 is certainly no exception. If you are working with Acrobat 9 Pro Extended in Windows, the PDFMakers in Word and PowerPoint contain new commands that allow you to embed a Flash movie in FLV (Flash video) format. As part of the installation, Acrobat also installs 3D ActiveX controls in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel that let you insert a 3D model into your source file.

Specify Video Settings

The settings used for embedding the file specify how the content is displayed on the page. Choose Adobe PDF > Change Conversion Settings and click the Video tab to define how the Flash Video movie is used in the PDF file:

  • Define a storage location, or leave the default, which is the same location as the source document’s folder.

  • Choose one of five video qualities, or leave the default, which is Good @400kbps.

  • Choose Encode Audio and select a Data Rate value. You can choose one of five rates from the pull-down list or use the default value, Good @160kbps.
