9.4. Create a Table of Contents

You can make a long document easier to navigate by adding a table of contents (TOC). The TOC gives the reader a good sense of the overall structure of the document, and it includes page numbers, which enables the reader of a document printout to easily find a particular section.

Word generates the entries that comprise a TOC from a document's Heading styles, so you should first format your document's headings with the appropriate Heading styles.
