15.4. Summary

In this chapter, you've learned what a baseline is and how to set one. I discussed the importance of having proper procedures in place to align with your project-management processes as you move from planning to execution. When you set a baseline in Project, the values in your current Start, Finish, Duration, Work, and Cost fields are copied into your baseline Start, Finish, Duration, and Cost fields. This includes time-phased data for both task and resource type views.

You can clear your baseline values at any time and return the baseline to NA. You can also reset the baseline, which copies whatever is in your current plan at the time into the baseline fields and erases all the old baseline values. Project can save up to 10 additional baselines, allowing you to back up your core baseline values before resetting and thus keep a historical record of previous baselines in one file.
