In Word, you generally choose to see all or none of the formatting marks in your document by turning the Show/Hide ¶ button on or off on the Home tab. However, you can be as choosy as you like, telling Word to display only the formatting marks, layout marks, and special content that you want to see.
Specify What You Want to See
Click the Office button, choose Word Options from the menu, and, in the Word Options dialog box, click the Display category in the left pane.
Specify whether you want to see white space between pages in Print Layout view, whether you want highlighter marks to be displayed, and whether you want to see ScreenTips (called ToolTips here).
Select the check boxes for the formatting marks you want to see.
Click the Advanced category, and, in the Show Document Content section, select or clear the check boxes for the items you want displayed.
Specify whether or not you want fields to be identified with shading.
Click OK.
