Chapter 2. Making Office 2007 Work Your ... > Setting Security and Privacy Options

Setting Security and Privacy Options

Security isn’t just for Windows. Office 2007 has an assortment of security and privacy settings as well, all designed to protect your computer and your identity from being compromised by viruses, hackers, and other ne’er-do-wells.

The default security settings in Office programs are designed to protect you, and we don’t recommend that you change them unless you are sure you know the consequences. In general, the only reason to make changes is to enable features such as macros that are disabled by default. These features are discussed in more detail in Chapter 24, “Extending Office with Templates, Macros, and Add-ins.”
