New Lync Client Features

Lync Server comes with an updated client that accesses all of the improved functionality of Lync Server. This client comes in several flavors including Lync “14,” Lync Attendant “14,” and Lync Phone Edition. As one might guess from the names, these cover the typical computer user, the “receptionist,” and hardware phones, respectively. Improvements to the clients are significant enough that they are introduced in the following sections.

Client Appearance

The new Lync client comes with an updated appearance and updated functionality. The new unified UI lists contacts, recent conversations, missed calls, and even the latest updates from your contacts. It also supports customization of the view of contacts to enable users to alter the appearances of their interfaces. Items such as contacts and missed calls now appear in a tabbed list. Updates from your contacts show up in the Activity Feed. These updates are primarily implemented to promote a more social aspect to collaboration.
