Transport Security

This section covers the protocols used to secure the transport of data. These protocols provide data confidentiality for specific applications:

  • Secure transactions— E-commerce, financial, and business-to-business applications require part or all of the transaction to be encrypted with SSL.

  • VPNs— VPNs were introduced in Chapter 5. They create a secure communication channel from which Internet users can safely access the applications hosted in the Data Center. VPNs can be based on IPSec or on SSL.

  • Management— The protocols provide for the secure management of network devices and servers.
