Create a Knoppix “Thin Client”

Use the Knoppix NX Thin Client to set up a network of Knoppix computers with even fewer resources than with the regular network boot Knoppix.

[Network Boot Knoppix] discussed how to set up a Knoppix disk so that other machines could boot from the same disk over the network. This method uses the initial Knoppix terminal server as a file server for the system settings and applications, but still uses the CPU and RAM of the system you have booted for any programs. Depending on your needs, this can be either a good or bad thing. If you plan to use systems with fast processors and plenty of RAM, and plan to use CPU or RAM-intensive applications, you will likely want to stick with the default Knoppix terminal server. However, if your computers aren’t that fast or don’t have much RAM, you can use the Knoppix thin client setup instead. This setup actually uses the CPU and RAM of the initial machine, so that your thin clients only need the minimal CPU and RAM necessary to boot and to connect to the remote system.
