17.5. Summary
RADIUS is used to enable wireless base station users to authenticate and gain access to wireless networks by using their directory services user account and password (WPA2-Enterprise) rather than using a simple shared network password to manage network access on the base station itself (WPA2-Personal).
Snow Leopard Server's WPA2-Enterprise implementation uses an 802.1X configuration that specifies EAP-TTLS authentication.
The EAP-TTLS encryption RADIUS uses requires a certificate, either obtained from a commercial Certificate Authority or generated by Certificate Assistant within Snow Leopard Server.
Once configured for AirPort base stations, RADIUS can also be used to authenticate VPN users or other Network Access Server devices supporting 802.1X security.
