Q. Is iCloud free?

A. For the features discussed in this chapter yes, iCloud is free of charge. There is an optional music match service through iTunes that uses iCloud for which Apple charges a subscription fee.

Q. Is there a limit to the amount of documents I can store in iCloud?

A. Yes. By default, new iCloud accounts are given a certain quota of disk space usage in the cloud. You can pay an additional fee to extend this quota and expand your maximum usage. Keep in mind that there are other services and applications that can all fill up your iCloud disk quota, so your application shouldn’t use it wastefully.

Q. Do files sync with iCloud immediately?

A. No. There is a background process responsible for checking iCloud to see if new files need to be copied from the cloud to the local disk and from the local disk out to the cloud. It can take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes for updates to propagate through the cloud to your other devices.
