No computer system can simply be set up and then forgotten. The best case is that a device will need only occasional attention. In the case of modern servers providing one or more services to users, an administrator must regularly monitor the services and system to ensure that resources are performing adequately. In a larger system, it is also important to monitor production systems for underutilization. This chapter teaches administrators the logging and monitoring structure and utilities in Mac OS X.
