Chapter 11: Reporting > Report Wizard

Report Wizard

The Report Wizard enables users to build basic reports without development knowledge by providing an easy-to-use interface for doing so. With Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011, reports are generated using native Fetch-based queries through a new data source that is now available to support Fetch queries that can be found in the Report Manager with the name of MSCRM_FetchDataSource. Additionally, the final reports are actually Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services reports, or .rdl files, which you can further manipulate using a more advanced editing tool such as Visual Studio.

Note

As with previous versions, reports built with the Report Wizard can be edited using Visual Studio. This is typically done to increase performance, layout, and report complexity. To do so, you need to download and install a Visual Studio plug-in called Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Report Authoring Extension(CRM2011-Bids-ENU-i386.exe), which needs to be installed to use the required Fetch data source type to parse the Fetch queries that exist in the reports data source generated by the Report Wizard.
