Chapter 14. Developing Custom Microsoft CRM Controls

In Chapter 3, we showed you how to add references to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM APIs and use them to perform basic functions. In this chapter, we’ll go further into customization by creating custom server controls that incorporate the Microsoft Dynamics CRM APIs. This chapter assumes that you have a basic working knowledge of server-control development.

Microsoft ASP.NET provides developers with many built-in server controls. When you’re developing custom Web solutions with Microsoft Dynamics CRM, you may want to extend these server controls or build your own from scratch by inheriting from a control base class. We will do both of those things in this chapter. Because all of our custom controls will render a user interface component, they all inherit from the System.Web.UI.WebControl class or an existing control class that inherits from it.
