This chapter covered the core data source essentials for designing a form. Specifically, we discussed working with data in the Fields task pane, setting data source field and group properties, binding controls to data source nodes, starting from blank versus existing XML Schema, interpreting design-time visuals, setting default values, and handling default data fragments. Each of these topics ties together, making InfoPath a superb data-centric platform for designing and filling out forms. In the next chapter, we discuss advanced controls as well as ways to customize controls by changing their properties. Then in Chapter 6, we introduce two major data-centric features that build on many of the concepts in this chapter: data validation and action rules.
