Encrypting Classified Data

Once you have data classified, you can elect to encrypt that data using RMS (rights management server) encryption. Using RMS, you can automatically protect documents based on their classification.

Now, let’s create a rule to classify any documents in the HR folder to be classified as High if the string “Company Confidential” is found. From the File Server Resource Manager on the file server where the HR folder resides, click File Management Tasks and right-click to pull up Create File Management Task.

Give your task the name High Business Impact and the description “Auto RMS protection for confidential docs.” From the Scope tab, check Group Files. Select a day from the Schedule tab (the recommendation is to run the task once per week), and under “Continuous operation,” choose “Run task continuously on new files.” From the Action tab, set Type to RMS Encryption. Next, add the folder you want to run the task against and then run it to verify the configuration.
