Hyper-V Extensible Network Switch
Hyper-V R3’s Extensible Switch is another killer feature in Windows Server 2012 networking. With it, third parties can create plug-ins to enhance Hyper-V management. Even before Windows Server 2012 was released in its final version, vendors started creating and marketing extensions for Hyper-V that can do tasks ranging from aiding system admins in easily mounting virtual drives to securing virtualized environments.
The Hyper-V network switch also provides network management features just like any physical hardware switch. For instance, VMs can be isolated from other VMs, giving organizations the power to deploy a multitenant cloud. You can isolate VMs by placing them in private virtual LANs (PVLANs). PVLANs aren’t only for isolating tenants using an organization’s hosted services; they are also used to secure access and communications within a network, between VMs on a physical host.
