NIC Teaming

Network interface card (NIC) teaming is now a native feature in Windows Server 2012. With NIC teaming, multiple NICs can be consolidated to provide bandwidth load balancing and network connection failover without requiring third-party hardware or software.

Load balancing via NIC teaming provides bandwidth aggregation. For example, a Server 2012 system with two network adapters that each connect at 1 Gbps will give 2 Gbps throughput when teamed.

Windows Server 2012 network adapter teaming is designed to work with any vendor’s network cards. For aggregation or failover, both adapters have to support the same network speed.

Teaming is pretty straightforward to enable. In the following steps, we will create a networking team by connecting a system with a built-in interface to an additional interface, with both interfaces connecting at 1 Gbps. To configure both for aggregation:
