Configuring a VPN Server

VPNs are most often used at the gateway to corporate networks, allowing employees to connect to the network and use resources (including Remote Desktop connections) as if they were back in the office. For the most part, these setups use third-party VPN solutions specifically designed for high-volume usage. For a standalone computer or a small network, where you need only a single incoming connection at any time, Windows Vista includes everything you need.

You can make any computer on your network a remote access server so that you (and others, if you choose to share access) can connect to it via a VPN and then access shared folders on your local drives. If your computer is connected to a local area network, incoming VPN connections can also browse the network and access shared resources elsewhere on the network.
